I have been volunteering since September 2016 as a UN Online Volunteer Editor for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Monrovia, Liberia. My work consists of editing and proofreading communications, advocacy, and promotional materials. My experience, alongside my education, made me want to put my strengths at use in a meaningful way to help the UN achieve its objectives of peace and development.
Having had the opportunity this past year to live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I saw first-hand the positive influence of the UN; and this influence greatly resonated with me. Now, I welcome the opportunity to be actively involved in helping this global organization achieve its goals.
My work as a UN Online Volunteer Editor has enabled me to make a difference while serving in a suitable position, which also fitted into my full-time work schedule. It enables me to use my expertise to help others by delivering improved communications products for UNV in Monrovia, Liberia.
Being an online volunteer has allowed me the unique and enriching experience of helping others who are always appreciative and grateful for my assistance. My experience has fostered my self-learning and has allowed me to develop a better understanding of some of the realities of other cultures and countries.
I particularly enjoy editing and proofreading the testimonies of other committed individuals who are volunteering on the ground in Liberia, as well as personally interacting with members of the UNV Field Unit in Monrovia through technology.
The last eight years, I have been working in the areas of communications and policy development in both the academic and the government sectors in Ontario, Canada. Currently, I work full-time for the Government of Canada in the country’s capital city of Ottawa.
I have broad experience writing and proofreading materials for a variety of audiences, and editing and proofreading experience from my previous work with non-profit organizations, which involved the mobilization of other volunteer writers.
I look forward to continue contributing as an online volunteer for the UN for a very long time!
