Narrowing the digital divide in Türkiye

My name is Yukari Kanamori. I believe that partnerships between the public and private sectors are integral to meeting the challenge of sustainable development. As a UN Volunteer, I contributed to a partnership between the private sector and the United Nations, addressing, in particular, the digital divide affecting women and girls. My assignment was fully funded by the Government of Japan, through the Human Resource Development Programme for Peacebuilding and Development.

I served at the UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector Development in Türkiye as a Research and Partnership Analyst with a focus to ensure the engagement of private-sector partnerships for developing digital skills and the green economy.

The private sector can support governments with expertise and advice, access to capital, and an appetite for risk. A collaboration between the public and the private sectors creates a sense of shared ownership of development outcomes. --Yukari Kanamori, fully funded UN Volunteer Research and Partnership Analyst.

One of the development challenges facing women and girls in Türkiye is a pronounced gap in the digital arena. This is where the Government of Japan, UNDP, and the private sector collaborated to propose solutions for the way forward. Skills for an Inclusive Future (S4IF) is a global multi-stakeholder advisory network made possible through a collaboration of UNDP and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with the aim of including underserved populations and advancing digital transformation and the green economy.

As part of the Skills for an Inclusive Future partnership, I designed and developed an advisory function, supported and reviewed operational approaches, and implemented outreach and communications. --Yukari Kanamori, fully funded UN Volunteer Research and Partnership Analyst.

My UN Volunteer assignment speaks to the myriad of ways in which strong engagement and collaboration between the public and the private sector can support sustainable development and build robust and inclusive societies.
