Rosa María Del Carmen Pimentel Cortez: An advocate against gender-based violence

María Rosa Pimentel was a UN Volunteer Specialist in Sexual and Reproductive Health with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Peru from 2021 to 2022.

Rosa María advocated for sexual and reproductive rights, focusing on women and girls, including those with disabilities in Peru.

Her work contributed to the elimination of gender-based violence in health facilities.

She shares, “In my UN Volunteer assignment, I not only have the chance to actively work for the sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls but also to advocate for women with disabilities.”

"During my assignment, I contributed to the technical support UNFPA offered to the Ministry of Health in elaborating the Technical Health Norm. This seeks to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence in health facilities that offer sexual and reproductive health services," continues María Rosa.

She provided technical guidance and assistance from UNFPA to the Ministry of Health for preparing the Ministry’s health regulations.

After ending her UN Volunteer assignment, Rosa María continues to advocate against gender-based violence in Peru.
