Your Excellency Mr President, Ladies and gentlemen, My name is Toily Kurbanov, and I bring to you greetings from 12,000 UN Volunteers worldwide. First, I thank the government of Kazakhstan for organizing this International Forum on Volunteering and for inviting UNV.

It was towards the end of 2020 when COVID-19 was on the rise and headlines around the world only had pandemic news that I started exploring the UNV Portal for opportunities. With an graduate degree in Biology from the United States of America and a post graduate degree from the United Kingdom, I began a volunteer assignment as an online volunteer with the Resident Coordinator's Office in the Republic of Moldova. 

Dilyara Begalykyzy is a student at Nazarbayev University in Political Science and International Relations. She serves as a UN Youth Volunteer Event Planning Assistant at the UNDP Accelerator Lab.  One of the most meaningful innovations for our society is the family social card. It allows the Government of Kazakhstan to define a family's social category and arrange the relevant social payments. A great example of how innovation can provide digital solutions for social problems," says Dilyara.

UN Volunteers have played invaluable roles in UN humanitarian assistance from the first days of war in Ukraine and UNV is committed to staying and delivering in support of millions of displaced people.

Q. Anita, can you tell us about the programme you are serving with? A. The programmes where I am involved are the FAO-Kosovo Programming Framework and Programme on Forestry titled "Support to strengthening sustainable and multi-purpose forest management to improve rural livelihoods and address climate change in Kosovo." Both will enhance Kosovo’s capacities for sustainable use of natural resources and contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for instance, Life on Land.

The Astana Civil Service Hub (ACSH) has been a flagship initiative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Kazakhstan since 2013. Some 42 countries participate in this knowledge exchange platform. 

UNICEF and UNHCR, in partnership with governments and civil society organizations, have set up 26 Blue Dot safe spaces for children and women in bordering countries, each able to provide relief for 3,000-5,000 people per day. They are also mobilizing to treat the mental and emotional damage caused by the conflict. In Romania, Marina Feher became a national UN Volunteer with UNICEF to help the Blue Dot initiative, focusing on refugees in Isaccea, Tulcea and Galati areas.

OSDG is a flagship product of the partnership between UNDP IICPSD and PPMI. It's a free, open-source, and user-friendly tool classifying text and publications into different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
