Karan Narayan serves with UNCDF's Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP). PICAP's main objective is to provide swift financial relief to the most vulnerable following a natural disaster. This pilot initiative targets agriculture, fisheries, retail and tourism, with a special focus on women, youth, migrants, as well as micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

As he walked down a dusty road in Kunta Dumba, in Kambia district, northern Sierra Leone, the villagers bellowed intermittently, “Mr. Khalid! Mr. Khalid!” Khalid Javed Choudhry, a Pakistani UN Volunteer, smiled and waved at the people with whom he has developed an uncommon affinity. Kunta Dumba, a small village near the border with neighbouring Guinea, is battling Ebola, and a number of families have lost their loved ones. In fact, on the day that Khalid and a team from the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) visited, two families were quarantined.

Three UNV Doctors were among those honoured at a Thank You Braai and Celebration for international volunteers held in March by the Rotary Club of Polokwane in Limpopo Province, South Africa. UNV Internist Dr. Jerome Hubahib (Philippines), UNV Speicalist Cardiologist Dr. Rajeev Misra (India) and former UNV Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Asha Misra (India), as well as eight US Peace Corps volunteers, received certificates of recognition for their work in Limpopo communities
