UNV EC anticipates inspiring dialogue on volunteerism and governance from new State of the World's Volunteerism Report

The new State of World's Volunteerism Report: Transforming Governance was designed to create a conversation, said Richard Dictus, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme which published the document.  "I look forward to an inspiring dialogue on the impact of volunteerism and governance," said UNV's chief at the launch of this report at UN Headquarters on 5 June 2015.

"The new State of World's Volunteerism Report: Transforming Governance was designed to create a conversation," said Richard Dictus, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme which published the document. "I look forward to an inspiring dialogue on the impact of volunteerism and governance," said UNV's chief at the launch of this report at UN Headquarters on 5 June 2015.

The report reveals "the art of the possible", the UNV Executive Coordinator told the gathering which included representatives of permanent missions to the United Nations, UN agencies, volunteer involving organizations, non-governmental organizations and the media. "We are showing the opportunities that Volunteering offers to countries and societies to improve sustainability, outreach, and scope of development results by engaging people -by creating environments for people to volunteer their time, it is possible to use their skills and knowledge for the common good in the sphere of governance."

Helen Clark, the UNDP Administrator, Zganga Taonga Mvula, a former youth volunteer, now on staff with Restless Development in Zambia, Jack Leslie, Chairman of Weber Shandwick, and Amanda Mukwashi, Chief of the Knowledge and Innovations Section at UNV, who led the SWVR project team, joined the UNV EC on a panel which addressed and fielded questions from the audience. On behalf of their respective governments, representatives of Bhutan, Brazil, Germany and Japan extended compliments to UNV for its perseverance in producing the report, expressing its importance in the current formulation of the sustainable development goals.
