The Administrator completed arrangements concerning the establishment of a central co-ordinating office of the United Nations Volunteers in New York within the framework of UNDP. In addition to the co-ordinator, the United Nations Volunteers office consists of a principal officer, a professional officer and three general service posts for secretarial assitance.

The General Assembly of the United Nations today decided to establish an international corp of volunteers, who will work with the world's developing nations in efforts to achieve economic and social advancement. The volunteer programme will commence on 1 January 1971 - the same date on which the recently - proclaimed United Nations Second Development Decade will begin.
