Natalie Ismail is a UN Youth Volunteer serving as Youth Engagement and Water Scarcity Support Officer with UNICEF Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, based in Amman, Jordan. She is the focal point for participatory action research in the region. Through this role, Natalie raises awareness and builds the capacity of young people for climate-related issues.

IVD this year coincided with the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme. Country volunteer awards were organized on the occasion in several countries, including in Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia. Another highlight of IVD 2021 in the Arab States included the launch of Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II Award for Voluntary Service by HRH Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan.

Two UN Volunteers were among the recipients of the Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa Award for Volunteer Work this year.  Established in 2009 by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Isa Award seeks to honour individuals and organizations around the globe that have served humanity in a profound way, so that their exceptional, selfless and tireless contribution does not go unnoticed.
