Karan Narayan serves with UNCDF's Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP). PICAP's main objective is to provide swift financial relief to the most vulnerable following a natural disaster. This pilot initiative targets agriculture, fisheries, retail and tourism, with a special focus on women, youth, migrants, as well as micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Myanmar, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), runs a Disaster Risk Reduction Youth Volunteer (DRRYV) project in support of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

Mr. Khalid!” Khalid Javed Choudhry, a Pakistani UN Volunteer, smiled and waved at the people with whom he has developed an uncommon affinity. Kunta Dumba, a small village near the border with neighbouring Guinea, is battling Ebola, and a number of families have lost their loved ones. In fact, on the day that Khalid and a team from the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) visited, two families were quarantined.

Three UNV Doctors were among those honoured at a Thank You Braai and Celebration for international volunteers held in March by the Rotary Club of Polokwane in Limpopo Province, South Africa. UNV Internist Dr. Jerome Hubahib (Philippines), UNV Speicalist Cardiologist Dr. Rajeev Misra (India) and former UNV Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Asha Misra (India), as well as eight US Peace Corps volunteers, received certificates of recognition for their work in Limpopo communities

One year after the Long Life Heart Clinic opened in Mzuzu Central Hospital in Mzuzu, Malawi, UNV Doctor Romain Mbiya, from DRC, has treated about 220 peoplewith heart problems.

In February, Haiti will open its fourth "Smile Clinic" on reproductive health to help reduce maternal mortality. The accessible free cliinics are supported by UNV and delivered by UN Volunteers in remote areas.
