UN Volunteer Public Information Officer Anna Adhikhari (Poland), with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) led a forum in Bentiu, for volunteers or social mobilizers associated with the South Sudan Trust Rehabilitation and Development Organization, a local NGO running projects in the areas of health, education, environment, water and sanitation, food and agriculture. The social mobilizers, who help the NGO link with communities, said volunteerism was vital in South Sudan's development efforts, for example, affording them access to training they could use to educate communities on topics such as disease prevention and civic participation.
Currently, there are about 400 UN Volunteers from around the world working with UNMISS in its role of supporting South Sudan in peace building and creating an environment that enables development.
