Tuqa Faisal Alsayid Majali: Eager to keep achieving more

Tuqa Faisal Alsayid Majali says, “I have a strong passion and love for the development sector in general and volunteering in particular.” She is a UN Volunteer Governance and Peacebuilding Support Officer with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Jordan.

Tuqa's UN Volunteer service includes conducting research on the interplay between disability, climate change, and conflict. She supports action plans related to disability and climate change, collaborates on local projects, prepares training materials and policy papers.

Though being a visually impaired person comes with its challenges, Tuqa is clear that her disability gives her an advantage in the field of disability and governance, “I feel a strong connection to the concerns, struggles, and real-life needs of this community, as we constantly experience these needs in our daily lives.”

She says her experience in the UN system is rewarding experience and is shaped by the support and understanding of her team, “I believe it is the perfect place to express my abilities and unleash my creative potential.”

Tuqa also draws inspiration from late Judith Ellen ‘Judy’ Heumann, a disability rights activist, whose advocacy on disability inclusion has set a path that Tuqa wishes to follow.

“Every morning, I wake up knowing that there are achievements to be made and memorable moments to be cherished,” says Tuqa. Her volunteer assignment has benefited her personally by adding to her self-confidence and professionally by enhancing her knowledge and skills.

She has vivid memories of participating in a capacity building workshop where she was able to network with colleagues from around the world and also gained more insights in disability inclusion.

Tuqa encourages other persons with disabilities to join the service in the UN system. Her advice is to act naturally, without pretence, showcase creativity and experience, embrace challenges with flexibility and integrate disability inclusion into policies.

In her role in the UN system, she inspires, instills hope and contributes to changing perceptions about persons with disabilities.

Tuqa says she is eager to achieve even more!
