The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is partnering with the Asan Nanum Foundation (ANF) of the Republic of Korea to promote youth engagement in the achievement of human development goals.
The UNV-ANF partnership was officially launched today at UNV headquarters in Bonn. The ANF was represented at the launch by a delegation led by Dr CHUNG Chin Hong, Chairman of the ANF.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is partnering with the Asan Nanum Foundation (ANF) of the Republic of Korea to promote youth engagement in the achievement of human development goals.
Through this partnership, UNV and the ANF aim to positively harness the energy of UN Volunteer Interns towards the advancement of peace and development around the world, while enhancing their participation, citizenship and work-related skills. In 2013, the Foundation will provide full funding for ten young Koreans under the UNV Internship Programme.
UN Volunteer Interns are recent university graduates up to 30 years old. The UNV Internship Programme provides young professionals with opportunities to volunteer in their respective fields of specialization and contribute to the programmatic work of UNV and its UN partner organizations. This exposes them to development realities and to a different socio-economic environment, which in turn enhances their professional and life skills. UN Volunteer Interns are fully funded by donors.

During the visit, avenues for further collaboration were explored, including the UNV Global Youth programme that is being developed by UNV in response to the Action Agenda of the UN Secretary-General.
Flavia Pansieri, UNV Executive Coordinator, welcomed the partnership, emphasizing, Youth volunteerism is an important means to ensure the greater participation of youth and their inclusion in development processes. We work to empower young people and gain their driving energy to advance progress towards peace and development.
During the official launch ceremony, Dr Chung Chin Hong addressed UNV staff, stating that the ANF is excited to work in partnership with the UNV to build peaceful and prosperous communities throughout the world. He added that the ANF is hopeful that the Korean UN Volunteer Interns will be able to make valuable contributions to the work of the UN around the globe, while also gaining professional skills and cross-cultural understanding which will enable them to develop into global leaders of tomorrow.
